We walk with Gratitude

If you’ve spent any time in the Quincy, MA area, chances are that you know at least one of us… especially if your travels take you to the local hockey rink! It was this spot in which we all came together, as we logged countless seasons in the chilly arena at ungodly hours in support of our children and their fledgling hockey careers. We watched them progress from wobbly toddlers clinging to milk crates to the skilled players that they are today, all the while chatting about the vicissitudes of fortune that typically consume a hockey parent. Although most of us had crossed paths well before we had children of our own, somehow experiencing the highs and lows of the sport with our kids united our spirits in an exceptional bond of friendship that we all recognized as a tremendous gift.

In 2015, two women from our beloved group of five were diagnosed with breast cancer. While it was incredibly difficult to receive this dreadful news and many hours were spent agonizing over the course of treatment that would follow, those who were diagnosed engaged in the ensuing battle with such courage, grace, and extraordinary fortitude that we all became inspired beyond measure. Unexpectedly, we all experienced a sense of gratitude in place of fear, anger or pity. Gratitude for the unwavering support from family, friends and colleagues. Gratitude that both were diagnosed during the early stages of the disease, and the prognosis for each one is excellent. Gratitude for the unparalleled care that is available in our area to those who require cancer treatment. And gratitude for the friendship that we share with each other, and the recognition that the challenging times that we support each other through only strengthened the bonds between us. We may not have known each other forever, but we will never leave each others’ sides.

It is with gratitude that we have accepted the challenge to participate in the Avon 39. It won't be easy, but we are committed to raise funds for this important cause.

We are required to raise at least $9,000, but plan to raise much, much more. We would be extremely grateful for your support!

They will enable access to mammograms and medicine, fuel research, and save lives.
